Located 35 miles north of the City of San Diego, Carlsbad is currently home to 90,000 residents; at build-out in 2010, the population is expected to exceed 135,000.  Covering an area of 40 square miles, Carlsbad runs along the Pacific Ocean, north of La Costa to Oceanside. 

Most of Carlsbad’s construction is recent, although there are cottages dating back to the early 1900s.  The downtown or “village” of Carlsbad is currently undergoing redevelopment, but the growth explosion is in the residential sector.  Carlsbad offers several master-planned communities, including Bressi Ranch, Robertson Ranch, Calavera Hills, and the Villages of La Costa.  Builders such as Corky McMillan, Centex, Greystone, Fieldstone, Shea, and Western Pacific Housing offer condominiums, apartments, single-family homes, and estates in Carlsbad. New projects currently underway include Spyglass Hills, Heron Bay and Montara, expanding the ever-growing number of options.

Carlsbad has many amenities, including the local Palomar airport, which has encouraged real estate and business development in the area.  Many national companies are headquartered here, including Forbes, Callaway Golf, Taylor Made and Isis Pharmaceuticals. Carlsbad’s beautiful beaches, the Flower Fields, Legoland, world-class golf courses, and a variety of housing options, make this town one of the best in Southern California.
