Nestled in between Encinitas and Carlsbad in Southern California is the timeless beach community of Leucadia. Settled by the Greeks in the late 1800s, the community was named after a Greek island and means "A Sheltered Place" or "Isle of Paradise".

Residents in this small community in San Diego's north coastal county consider it to be an "unspoiled reminder of the era of Hwy 101". Downtown harkens back to the quiet, uncrowded beach towns that existed prior to World War II. It still has the feel of earlier times and has retained its beach, art, and Hwy 101 culture.

Where else can you enjoy an early morning surf, walk to Pannikens in the old train depot for a steaming coffee, then stroll down to Caldwells Antiques, a unique family-owned business with strange hours and even stranger merchandise. Enjoy a lunchtime surf lesson at various surf schools, or chow down at the 101 Caf; then head over to Cal Pacific Orchard Farm, with 36,000 square feet of greenhouse space dedicated to specialty orchids. Finish your afternoon with a hike through Batiquitos Lagoon, where you can view endangered birds or just enjoy the quiet.

Beaches are within walking distance. World class golf courses, the famous Poinsettia flower fields, Legoland, and Quail Botanical Gardens are located within five miles. Surf shops, antique dealers, flower stands and small shops line Coast Highway 101 in both directions. Coffee houses and a range of superb dining spots are easily reached on foot.

Real estate choices in Leucadia are varied, ranging from bluffside condos with panoramic ocean views, to wonderfully quaint neighborhoods of restored cottages and spectacular estates, many with Pacific-blue views. East of 101 are still more charming neighborhoods, with modern custom homes juxtaposed with century-old homes. Its a great place to own a piece of California history in the quaint beach town of Leucadia.
