One of the most highly desirable places to live in San Diego County, Point Loma is a jewel-like peninsula that wraps around San Diego Bay. Residents choose Point Loma for its rich history, its close proximity to the airport and downtown, and its unsurpassed ocean views. Here homes may command panoramic blue Pacific views and breathtaking sunsets, while neighbors enjoy sunrises and skyline views that extend all the way to Mexico.

Still other homes enjoy canyon views, thanks to Point Lomas hilly terrain. Most of the areas real estate was built between 1950 and 1980, and roads wind around the hillsides, dotting many different and eclectic styles of homes, including condos. Many homes are quite large, particularly in upscale areas such as Silvergate and La Playa. Others are cottages, each with individual charm. West of Rosecrans are older homes on wide streets, dotted with authentic lamp posts.

East of Rosecrans is the new Liberty Station, built on the site of the former US Naval Training Center. Liberty Station is a 361-acre mixed use redevelopment project that includes residential, office, retail, educational and civic, arts and cultural districts. It boasts a 9-hole golf course, a 46-acre waterfront park and a 100-acre historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.

At the southern tip of the peninsula is Cabrillo National Monument, named after Juan Cabrillo, the first European explorer to see San Diego Bay. The Old Point Loma Lighthouse is part of the monument, where visitors tour the historic lighthouse that guided ships through the San Diego Bay from 1855 to 1891.

Nearby are Naval Base Point Loma, home of Submarine Squadron 11, several Nuclear Fast Attack Submarines, and historic Fort Rosecrans, a former US Army Coastal Gunnery Facility of the First World War era, which includes the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery and the USS Bennington Monument.

Rich in nature, people, and history, Point Loma is one of the oldest communities of San Diego. Blessed with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean to the west and views of both Downtown and Americas Cup Harbor to the east, Point Loma is one of the areas most desirable communities.
