La Jolla
Real Estate
Located 10 miles north of
downtown San Diego, La Jolla is one of San Diego’s most prized communities,
known for its beaches, fine dining, shopping, and multi-million dollar homes.
La Jolla’s communities include Mt. Soledad, the Beach & Barber tract, Birdrock,
the Muirlands, La Jolla Farms, and the UCSD area. The village of La Jolla, its
downtown area, is home to the La Jolla Cove, as well as art galleries,
boutiques, and an array of coastal condominiums.
La Jolla’s development is
limited by its geography with Pacific Beach to the south, University City and
Rose Canyon to the east, and the cliffs of Torrey Pines to the north. There are
only a few planned communities, most of which are on Mt. Soledad, with the
majority of the housing comprising custom homes and condominiums. La Jolla
still has a few of its original beach cottages, dating to the early 1900s, but
those not designated as historic landmarks are frequently razed and replaced by
new homes.
Much of La Jolla’s
architecture bears Spanish and Mediterranean influences. New construction is
usually of lavish estate style homes. Condominiums are principally found along
the beaches, including several on Coast Boulevard, all offering spectacular
whitewater views.
La Jolla has several
private schools as well as a highly rated public school system. It frequently
appears on various magazines’ lists of the best places to live in the U.S.
