Just 40 miles northeast of downtown San Diego is Ramona, the countys fastest-growing unincorporated region. Ramona prides itself on being the gateway to the back country, plus a family-friendly and horse-friendly community.

Located in the foothills of the Laguna Mountains, Ramona is east of both Escondido and Poway (with which it shares a boundary), north of Lakeside and west of Santa Ysabel. Encircling Ramona are avocado and citrus groves, thoroughbred horse farms, and a few chicken farms and dairies. The area is also home to more than 20 commercial vineyards, 9 bonded wineries and two tasting rooms open to the public. Several new vineyards and wineries are being developed within the Ramona Valley.

Ramonas real estate is moving at a healthy pace, and includes condos, executive homes, upscale subdivisions, mini-ranches and countryside single family homes. Currently median home prices hover at $575,000, with two-bedroom condos starting in the mid $200,000s, three-bedroom homes from the low $300,000s (with most ranging in the $400,000s), up to multi-million dollar ranch estates.

Old Town Ramona offers one of the widest selections of antique stores in the county, along with the refurbished Mainstage Theatre, the Guy Woodward Museum (featuring Old West culture), and plenty of restaurants with down-home cooking (check out The Kitchen Sink at the Ramona Caf). Outdoor activities abound, with horseback riding, two golf courses, several parks, fishing and other water recreations in 4 nearby lakes, hiking in the Cuyamaca Mountains, and camping in the Anza Borrego desert. Ramona hosts a large rodeo in May; each August is the Country Fair with crafts, carnival rides, live entertainment, great food and lots of animals.
