Tucked into the southwest corner of San Marcos, San Elijo Hills is a highly rated master planned community on the hills of North County San Diego (actually the highest point in the county at over 3,000 feet above sea level). Located about 34 miles from downtown San Diego, the community is just 10 miles from beaches atop emerald hills which give San Elijo its name.

When completed, the 1,920-acre community will include 3,400 homes, a large town center and the nearby San Elijo Hills Park. The community was architecturally inspired by coastal California towns in the 1920s and 1930s, with an eclectic blend of California Mission, European and Arts and Crafts styles.

San Elijo Hills real estate includes a diverse range of home sizes and prices: single family, townhomes, live/work spaces and estates. In addition to brand-new homes for sale by the builders, there are a number of resale homes available. Homes vary in size from about 1,111 square feet up to 4,011 square feet, with up to 6 bedrooms and 4.5 baths. Prices range from $585,000 for three-bedroom homes to $620 for four-bedroom homes, and up to $1.3 million for larger homes. Many have panoramic views of the ocean and extending for miles both north to Camp Pendleton and south to San Diego.

At the centerpoint of the community is the town square with its surrounding business district, new schools, and retail center. The town center plan includes shopping, dining and other services and amenities.

San Elijo Hills Park, located in the town center area, was recently completed. It features a 6,500-square-foot community center, an aquatic playground, athletic fields, tot lots, sheltered picnic areas, plazas, and acres of grassy areas. The park also serves as the main trailhead for an 18-mile network of trails connecting the neighborhoods to the town center and winding through San Elijo Hills' 1,115 acres of open space. Hikers will enjoy vistas of local canyons as well as Pacific Ocean views from Catalina to downtown San Diego.

Children attend schools in the San Marcos Unified District, which boasts 10 of its schools having received the California Distinguished Schools designation. San Elijo Hills has an elementary school and a middle school, both located in the town center. Area high school students currently attend San Marcos High School, a California Distinguished School and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
